Health and fitness have always been important to Greg, whose skills on the court earned him an athletic scholarship to play basketball for Emporia State University. “I always worked out regularly,” he says. “Since starting Verve, I’m more dedicated than ever. It powers up your workout. People see the transforming effect of what Verve does — they see that I have more energy and more enthusiasm — and they ask about it.”**
Greg started his Vemma business after his first Verve-fueled workout. “I first tried Vemma at a meeting with Dan and Cathy Sarver. Right away, I noticed how focused I felt. Dan said his son used the Verve Shot before his workouts, so the next morning at 8 a.m., I tried it just before my workout. It was the best workout I’ve ever had. After that workout, I called Dan and said I was in. I knew I wanted that competitive advantage at every workout.”
Greg’s background is in finance. After graduating from college, Greg quickly advanced in the auto finance industry, becoming the only Master Certified Finance Representative at his company. Greg was closing the top 10% in sales and up for a promotion when his company suddenly let him go.
“That’s how things are when you’re working for someone else,” he says. “Monday you’re up for a promotion, Friday they let you go. I believe, though, that things happen for a reason. Working for other people was beginning to take its toll on me. Vemma allows me to be the entrepreneur that I have always been.”
With Vemma, Greg enjoys having time to spend with his kids. “When I was in the car industry, the only time I had for family was Sunday. You work every Saturday. I couldn’t go to practices or games; I couldn’t go to school events. I know how that feels as a kid because my dad couldn’t go to my games either. Now I finally have time to spend with my kids. I can go eat lunch with them, take them to amusement parks, go to their practices and coach them. The time freedom of Vemma is really big for me.”**
When Greg first got his scholarship his uncle told him he wasn’t good enough to play college basketball. “If someone tells me I can’t or am not good enough to do something, I’m the kind of person who will do it and prove them wrong. My uncle also said many from our family had tried college but no one had ever finished. After hearing that I knew in my heart that not only going to college, but I was going to graduate.” He uses this trait to his advantage in his Vemma business. “Negativity is just fuel in the tank,” he explains.
Greg keeps in touch with his team daily through phone, text messages, and home events. He does a lot of Skypeing, since his team is getting pretty spread out. “When new people join the team, I’m immediately on the phone with them. You’ve got to make sure you’re there for them to establish their business right and start building their teams.”
“You’ve got to have solid goals — I’ve set crazy-high goals. I’m already shopping for my Mercedes-Benz SUV! I want to have five of my strongest team members at Convention. I also want to re-establish a college fund for my kids, and when they get into high school, they can work for Vemma too. They’re already excited about working with Vemma!”
